How to Start a New Chapter
If
you have already signed up for your
free membership and you are interested in starting a Local Chapter in
a state not listed above,
here are the things you will need to keep in mind:
-
You
or other members of your Local Chapter commit to organizing
APPROXIMATELY one official event per month. Ideas for these
events can be found our the
Field Trips page.
-
Events will rotate between the three areas of focus for
Compassionate Kids: The Earth, People, and Animals (We are
flexible in what order the events take place or exactly what
percentage of the events fall into what category, as long as
it is APPROXIMATELY one third per area and it's mixed up a
bit.)
-
Although many of our members are homeschoolers, many
of the events should be scheduled after school hours or on
weekends so that they do not exclude children who attend
traditional public or private schools.
-
Compassionate Kids is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
However, at this time,
all fundraising activities must be limited to the state of
Georgia, the state of our incorporation. Local Chapters may not raise funds or accept monetary
donations. If events are planned that cost money or incur
expenses, you may charge attending members the appropriate
amount to cover costs without a markup.
-
We
cannot offer a salary at this time. As a new, non-profit
organization, even the founder/president of the national group is
performing all work on a volunteer basis at this time.
-
Compassionate Kids has a strong anti-discrimination policy
(see below). You must agree to adhere to the policies of
Compassionate Kids.
If
all this is acceptable to you and you would like to start a
Local Chapter, contact us.
Once you have given us your agreement, we will set up the local
email discussion group and send you an invitation to join it as
well as the discussion group for Compassionate Kids Leaders. If
you have any questions during any step of running your local
chapter, just let us know. We're happy to help!
*****POLICIES*****
ANTI-DISCRIMINATION POLICY:
Compassionate Kids does not discriminate based on age, gender,
race, religion, or lifestyle orientation. Compassionate Kids
strongly encourages diversity in both membership and leadership.
COMPASSIONATE ROLE MODELS:
As a compassion-based organization, we must hold ourselves to a
high standard of compassion so that we are the best role models
for the children in the organization. By nature, this
organization will touch upon issues related to activism, and not
all group members will have the same beliefs. We ask that all
group members maintain a high standard of respect for differing
opinions. Debate and discussion of the issues are welcome, but
arguments, insults, and raised voices will not be tolerated.
Group members intentionally or repeatedly violating any of these
policies will be removed from the group.
POLICIES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE:
As the organization evolves, it may become apparent that
additional guidelines are necessary. Changes in major policies
will be sent to all group members. While debate and discussion
is encouraged, the group leaders will make the final decisions.
