Civil Rights Movement Field Trip
Friday, February 25, 2005

The field trip to Atlanta History Center for the special presentation on the Civil Rights Movement was very cool. Despite missing several of the members who went through the various attractions individually, those of us who went through together really enjoyed it. The "Children of Courage" video was fascinating. I loved seeing the images of the children who were involved in promoting civil rights. We also met Charles Black and Lonnie King. These two activists served as the first two chairmen of the Atlanta Student Movement. Their speeches were most interesting! There was an activity where children could make any protest sign of their own message, and then they reenacted a famous boycott of lunch counter discrimination. We joined in with a school group for that one, and it was quite a memorable scene!
