EarthCraft House - Click to enlarge view. The official Compassionate KidsSM event for the month of July 2005 is a tour of the Southern Living Idea House at Glenwood Park in Atlanta. This Southern Living Idea House is a certified EarthCraft House that is open for the public to tour from June through early October 2005.

EVENT DETAILS

EarthCraft House is a voluntary green building program of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association in partnership with Southface, a non-profit organization that promotes environmentally sustainable homes, workplaces and communities through education, research, advocacy and technical assistance. EarthCraft houses serve as a blueprint for healthy, comfortable homes that reduce utility bills and protect the environment.

A Southface representative will guide our group through the house and speak about how the ideas we see will help the Earth. We will see lots of great ideas and techniques to maximize energy-savings and other earth-friendly home ideas such as the following:Solar Panels on EarthCraft House - Click to enlarge view.

  • Rainwater harvesting and water reclamation
  • Porch decking made from used grocery bags and other materials
  • Solar panels on roof to generate electricity
  • Drywall made from recycled gypsum and paper
  • Tankless water heaters
  • And much, much more!

For more information about what this house offers, read about the features of the house and/or the article from Southface Journal of Sustainable Building.
